What is this?
So I was driving along the highway and a cat ran in front
of me. I had no time to stop and unfortunately hit the cat. I
pulled over to check and see if everything was okay
underneath my car and saw this (see uploaded picture). I
had someone take the piece off so it wouldn't drag while I
drove. I'm not a car person can someone tell me what this
piece is and if it's okay to drive without it. Thank you in
Looks like the engine splash guard. When driving in wet conditions or maybe through a puddle it prevents the engine's belt and ignition system from getting wet. HTH. -Jim
Is it necessary to get a new one right away?
As lond as road conditions are good and if you have wet weather only a light rain, no puddles you will be ok. I would get one before you get into fall weather though, if your a little spooked about driving it still you could have the old pounded out and reattached temporarily until the new arrives at a later date.
the engine guard underneath is for aerodynamic and cooling purposes , it attaches with clips and bolts
