2014 Rav4, intermittantly, won't start.

Asked by Ron Jul 31, 2019 at 10:13 AM about the 2014 Toyota RAV4 Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Our 2014 Rav4 has been a great vehicle...up until the last couple days. For
the past two mornings, when my wife has attempted to start the vehicle, with
the push button, it has refused to start. I retrieved the extra key fob from
inside the house with the same results, no start. My wife said the brake pedal
felt as if it was locked in place and would not push down as normal. She got
out of the car, walked back inside to grab her a bottle of water, got back into
the car and it started normally. She said the brake pedal felt as if it released
pressure or something when she depressed it that time. Has anyone
experienced the same or a similar problem with your Toyota "push-to-start"
ignition? And if so, what was your solution? Thank you so much.

I am having the same problem with my 2013 rav4. I had the back hatch opened yesterday while loading some things and it won’t start. Had the alternator checked, it’s good. Replaced the battery, still not starting. Radio, air, windows work, just won’t start. Not even trying to turn over.

Hey GuruH6NFT, I decided to do a little research into my problem. I started by reading everything I could find on the web about my problem. Really didn't find a solution that worked. So I did what I should have done in the beginning, I got out the old owners manual. Guess what I found out? All I had to do was replace the battery in the keyless remote. Yes, it was just that simple for me. I hope you find the same results with your Rav4. Good Luck.
