Oil leak top of the engine

Asked by apure27 Jun 04, 2019 at 04:40 AM about the 2002 GMC Envoy 4 Dr SLT 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Step one I cleaned my engine thoroughly...
Step two I opened it two days later and see
oil on the top left of the engine.
Step three I took all the air cleaner stuff off
the top of the engine I tightened all the bolts
around all the valve cover and spark plugs.
Step four I cleaned it up again and checked it
all again I still see oil but I can not find where
it is leaking from...  Also new symptom arose
low oil pressure warning light came on but it
was full of oil when it did...  So now I have
something going bad and an oil leak that I
can't find...  Any suggestions that don't
involve me spending money at a shop to tell
me what is wrong...

A few things to look at in that area. Check your VVT Solenoid located just to the right of the PS pump there. Check bolt tightness on black timing chain cover there with the blue gromments. Check the curly PCV hose (no valve) that goes from Plastic resonator (says Vortec on it) to valve cover, I can see it in the pic. Last thing, directly below the VVT/PS pump is the oil pressure sensor. It's located right above the oil filter. Change that sensor anyway since you had a bad reading. If it has oil on it, it's bad. Lastly, would love to see what the valve cover looks like with the resonator off. Doubtful, but when the valve cover gasket leaks, you'll have oil inside the spark plug holes. Doubtful it's filled up with oil to the top and spilled over, but check this anyway.
