Could my daughters aux cord/phone be killing battery, making car sputter?

Hi!  My parents gave my daughter their
spare car around 2 months ago when she
got her license. It is a 2002 Ford Mustang.  
Lately if she is driving it on several errands
across town she will experience the car
"sputtering" at times and the battery light
comes on. I did a google search and an
article came up about aux cords/ phone
music drainnng car batteries.   Has anyone
experienced or heard of this happening?
The CD player was replaced with the one it
has now with aux cord several years ago
but I'm almost sure my parents never used
it when driving lol.
My dad had all upkeep done on this car
throughout its life and had a mechanic
check it out before giving g it to her.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
