2014 Chevy Malibu LS eco

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A couple months ago my battery, was not charging. The
battery voltage low light came on. After changing the
alternator, (I have a new battery from November 2017), it
was finally determined that my alternative battery was
bad. My  Malibu has a small 12 V battery in the trunk, for
the eco-start stop function. Today, as it happened back
couple months ago temperatures over 100°, I’m driving
three hours with air-conditioning on pretty high and the
signal came on, battery Voltage low and it shut off my air
conditioning. What’s going on?

Well I broke down and took it to the dealer. Apparently in the Chevy Cruz they’ve seen this problem and intermittently in a few of the Malibu‘s. (That’s what the service guy told me) There is a negative battery cable that spiders throughout the whole car. This cable was not functioning properly and had to be replaced. Cable approximately $200, and two hours labor. Very expensive fix for a battery cable. And the bad thing, when the cable apparently was not maintaining the proper charge, it got hot. It melted the fuse in the fuse and the fuse housing on the battery cover... But the dealer gave me a discount on that, so the two repairs cost me about $600.
