98 crown Vic

Asked by Chaeley Apr 27, 2017 at 11:37 AM about the 1998 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 98 crown Vic, been having problems
starting it lately but once it's started it will
run ok not perfect and I can't turn on the
lights or it loses power, replaced the
battery and terminals and it ran ok for a
couple days but then died again. I'm
thinking it's the alternator but not sure my
second guess is the battery cables

If you happen to have an Auto Zone close, you can bring it there and they will load test the alternator and battery to see if everything is working correctly. I thin this would be a good starting point for you

Yea I thought about doing that but I don't want it to break down on the side of the road if it is the alternator. It's not hard to change it out at home with all my tools but it would be a bit difficult on the side of the road plus alternator is only $110 or so on rock auto relatively cheap fix if that is the problem. My dad told me to get it running then put a metal wrench to the alternator, it's suppose to have a magnetic pull if it's working properly
