rough running, died, then surged upon restart

Asked by honeysucklerose61 Oct 29, 2015 at 07:11 PM about the 2003 Ford Taurus SES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Of course, I'm over 2 hours away from daughter at the moment. Her taurus
died on her today, but restarted and she was able to get to work, engine
was running rough. Tonight before leaving the lot, it started running very
rough, then suddenly surged ahead, then engine slowed. She said it felt
out of control. Brake pedal very firm and felt she would not be able to stop.
It's currently parked, but over 30 min from her mechanic. Any ideas? I'll
have to drive down tomorrow and take to an unknown mechanic for help.

Sounds like a bad sensor in the throttle. Check the throttle body for dirt or obstructions and clean the Mass Air Sensor. Reset the EMC by removing the negative connector from the battery for more than 1 minute and then reconnecting it.
