Turn signals

Asked by Jun 12, 2018 at 11:29 AM about the 1983 Chevrolet El Camino SS RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

With lights on, all turn signals work. (Led bulbs).
With lights off, front side turn signals do not work, I
have flipped the bulb, and the reverse happens,
lights off, signals work, lights on, side turn signals
do not. Replaced the side led bulbs with stock, 194
bulb and signals work fine, but now my dash signal
indicator lights stay on.

Back then they used ground cycling to make the side lights work as signals lights when the headlights were on. To make the LED's work properly your going to have to install diodes in the turn signal and running light wiring, make sure you install them correctly or nothing will work. you may also have to install resistors in the turn signal circuits to prevent hyperflash or a no flash condition. Had to that on my rig to stop hyperflash.
