Truck cuts off

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2013 F150 4x4 - A couple months ago my truck
just cut off going down the road.  It won't
crank...makes all the right noises but wont turn
over....but if you wait several hours or more then it
will crank right up. Mechanic couldnt find amything
wrong and said he tried to get it to do it but it never
would so after a week of him trying, I picked up my
truck.  It ran no problems for couple weeks them it
did it again twice.  Any idea what it could be?? New
battery, cables good, routine maintenance done on
time.  No problems to date other than this.  Oh...did
n9tice lately that when it gets low on fuel it will say
like 60 miles to empty..then just to like 40 after
going on maybe 100yards.  Then you might stop at
store, come out, crank it up and it say 150 miles to
empty.  Hope someone can help.

This will occur if you overfill the fuel tank. The owner's manual states when the nozzle clicks off, don't force feed it to get the extra quart or so in. What happens is the liquid gas gets into the EVAP purge valve and destroy it. If you ever filled the tank past the first click, that could be your problem.

Interesting. I don't force feed it, but I do roynd up to the dollar. Thanks I will keep that in mind.

Have the vehicle checked for codes, even if idiot light is not lit. You could get either a rich code or lean code. The "kill while driving" is a symptom and also a hard start after a fillup. The valve it not expensive, and easy to replace. Google U-tube for a video. If the valve sticks in purge mode while driving, I've seen F-150's of 2010 and 2011 actually collapse a gas tank like a beer can.

OK. Thanks. It cranks easily when it cranks. It's like a ghost...makes you feel like someone's playing a prank on you lol.
