Running badly

Truck running badly had new filter put on
then put new carb on and truck was running
better than ever...that only lasted few weeks
and while driving down road truck lost power
would only go approx. 40mph and engine
had a rattling noise and severe shaking of
motor.put new coils on ,new dist cap still no
change ...shows no compression on two
rear plugs ??? This is Nissan 720 pickup 4
wheel drive with 2.4l engine

Lack of compression is never good news. I've seen these engines run until the heads fall off due to loosening head bolts. Maybe pull the valve covers and retorque them while cold. Also the gas tanks get rusty inside and out. Change/check the fuel filter again. Good Luck

Would the EGR valve have anything to do with this? What about the catalytic converter would it cause these symptoms?

Yes, the EGR can get stuck open with carbon and interfere with the fuel/air mix going into the intake, causing power loss. The EGR can be cleaned of carbon and put back in if you don't break the gasket. The catalytic convertor too, can clog with carbon and choke off the exhaust flow.
