Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My hemi engine was acting up at 106,000 miles.  I just took it in and they said I
need a new engine.  Oil pump is shot.  Why did my engine only last 100,000?
Did oil changes regularly and used the best oil.

Just in case, if its running have another shop look at it. But if it is bad did u use the exact oil prescribed by manufacturer? That's very important.. How do u know the oil pump is shot?

That is just what the mechanic said it sounds like. Yes on the oil. The stuff that was prescribed. I am just wondering if this is normal.

Not normal for most cars but this is a Dodge. Were you doing a lot of stop light drag racing?

U need to rake it to a good mechanic. They cant just tell u by word of mouth. Needs some basic tests. Its still running correct? Most engines if taken care of, etc go past well past 100000 mies. I have been driving cars for 50 yrs. None, including Dodge have blown a engine. Got chevy 140000, A Honda 250000, Dodge 180000. Some minor issues but blown engine...none. Uness u did something to exacerbate it.
