Cost of engine replacement in 2013 Subaru Forester 60k miles

Asked by SP354 Jun 19, 2018 at 05:08 PM about the 2013 Subaru Forester 2.5X Premium

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

My 2013 Subaru Forester developed a knocking noise a few days ago. They
told me at the authorized dealer that it is a "rod knock" and the engine needs
to be replaced. It is covered under warranty but I may have one gap in the
"regular 5k miles oil change" rule and fear that Subaru might deny coverage.
If that happens, how much of out-of-pocket cost can I expect for a new
engine, $15k?

SOA should cover it...or at least enough to get your "participation" down to $2.5k, which is the cost of a used motor installed by a reputable indie.

look into the 2013 subaru forester burning oil. there was a class action lawsuit up against subaru for a known engine problem which they didn't tell people. Resulting in this issue. They were recommending people get an oil change every 3k and even then theres still burn off.
