99 Dodge Dakota help

Question type: General

I inherited this hillbilly truck and I'd like to know what this box is. It's under the
cab on the drivers side, below the seat. It has a tube that runs towards the
engine bay, but then it's just melted off at the end. It's always a little oily, could
be from rear main seal leak dripping onto it though. A help would be great,
thanks.

It looks like it's supposed to mount in these holes, but it's all sideways and strapped in instead.

Yes, I think you're right. So that melted hose is some kind of vent that got too close to the engine, maybe?

Or maybe it's the canister from a different model and the hose doesn't haven't a place to go on this truck???
