2013 Outback engine replacement.

Asked by BanjoOldMan Apr 19, 2019 at 08:54 AM about the 2013 Subaru Outback 2.5i

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

At 165,000 miles engine has knock (rattle) on cold start and is using 1qt 0W-
20 per 1000 miles, more when traveling at interstate speeds. What is
recommended for engine replacement? Short, complete, new timing
components etc.

I would suggest a long block (complete) so you get new timing components, water pump, heads, etc.

Thanks. That’s what I was thinking as we plan to keep this Outback for another 100k. What warranty could we expect on replacement? I assume this would be a rebuilt engine with new parts as required.
