No Crank / No start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I see that No Crank/No start is an ongoing problem on 2013 Honda Accord
EX-L (2.4). I bought one new in 2013. It developed this problem in the last 6
months, Problem is erratic: it may start in the first try now but it might a
take a dozen trials next time before it starts.  When it fails like that it is scary.
You don't know if you will be stranded and where. The car has only 90,000
miles.
Battery itself, its connections and alternator are good.  No clicking sound is
heard while attempting to start so I assume starter is good. Car is running
great once it starts. So fuel system (pump injector etc) seem OK.  Recently
battery management sensor has been replaced(was factory recall). I had
hoped it would solve the problem but it did not.   I am suspecting Contact
problem in Push Start/Stop button. Attempted to reach it by removing trims
but failed.. If you went through the same problem and fixed it by cleaning
contacts on this button I would like to hear from you especially on how to
remove the trim around the push start/stop button.

Starter motors get a lot of work, or abuse, in stop-start systems. Overwork can lead to carboned up contacts outside the starter or inside at the rotor/brushes where you get dead spots. Try starting while someone whacks the starter with a hammer handle. If it's the starter, that usually jolts it enough to get off a burned spot..... As you had recall work done, you ight go to the dealer and try blaming this on that work.

Thank you beatupchevy. After reading your message I did go through about 15 fuse and cleaned the tangs, I am amazed how much oxidation there was. I tested all the. fuses as well. They were all good. I also cleaned ground connection of the negative battery terminal to the chassis of the car. Unfortunately, the car still needs a dozen or so attempts to start it most of the time. Today I had a mechanic listen to it. He says he hears clicking sound from the solenoid and that this sounds like starter issue. I listened while he was trying to start the car and I think I heard the clicking sound as well. he wants me to bring in the car to his shop for further testing. I will do it in the coming days. I am puzzled though why a bad starter can start the car at times. Should it not always fail?
