Transmission sensors?

Asked by Guru97BRNY Feb 18, 2023 at 10:34 AM about the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu 1LT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have issues with my 2013 Chevy Malibu.  When driving on freeway (or
anywhere) and I "bare" touch the accelerator to speed up to pass a car, it shifts
down 2 gears and engine reves up to over 4000 rpms and seems forever
before it shifts back and idles again at 2000 rpms.  Is this something to do with
the transmission sensors in/out?

Try a good transmission shop first, they can do stand alone testing, and then they can tell you if it is a control system problem or an internal transmission problem. If your transmission checks out then it’s most likely engine management problem.

Welcome to GM! My Niece bought a 2016 Malibu new and had a major transmission failure when the car was only ten months old with less than ten thousand miles on it. She was without the vehicle for nearly three months while the Dealer was "waiting for parts" to fix it. Your best bet is visit a reputable transmission shop for a diagnosis. But the vehicle is ten years old so the repairs will probably exceed the value of the vehicle. Jim
