2012 SUBARU OIL PROBLEM

I am considering buying a 2012 Forester and have concerns about the oil consumption problem. The car is a 1 owner, traded for a 2019. There is a carfax with a good routine maintenance record and no problems reported and is a nice looking, clean, apparently well kept car. It has 167,xxx miles. It is at the dealer he traded it at for the 2019 and price is $8995. My worry is about the oil problem since it is out of warranty and over 100,000 miles. Opinions/advice?

I do not know of any way to measure oil consumption other than driving the car for a thousand miles or more. I would pay less as this car is at least 75% used up.
