Cranks but does not start on first try

Asked by Daniel Mar 16, 2021 at 01:29 PM about the 2012 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 LT RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When you get in to start and turn the key the engine will turnover for a few
seconds and then it stops trying.  If you turn the key again a second time to
start it will generally start right up.  I assume this is a fuel pressure issue, not
I am not sure if the fuel system has a regulator like the older models that
went bad (I am not able to locate a regulator on the auto parts website).  I
would prefer not to replace the pump as that is a bigger jump than a
regulator.

I'd check for applicable trouble codes? I saw some codes related to fuel components. in my database, I saw a fuel pressure sensor, in fuel line. I also saw a fuel pump flow control module, mounted to frame rail. There are codes listed for both these components. You need proper diagnostics before replacing anything. The fuel pump flow module monitors the fuel pressure sensor and controls the fuel pump accordingly. There are also codes listed for the fuel pump, itself.

Thanks. No codes. So I took it to a shop and they said the check valve in the fuel is bad so it is no longer holding pressure in the line when the pump is not running. Looks like I get the joy of dropping the tank to replace the fuel pump
