what causes oil pressure drop on my 2012 chevy silverado 1500. It drops from around 40 to nearly 20 when I come to a complete stop.

If this is the 5.3L engine, there are some reported problems with oil pressure with this motor. The usual fix is replacing the oil pump and checking the pick-up tube. May want to search more on this on line.

One thing you should try is to take out the screen under the oil pressure sending unit and clean it or replace it. It is known to get plugged. You might as well put a new oil pressure sender in while it is out.
