Are you indicating the shift lever is in Drive...but...the indicator light on the dash says you are in some other gear?

The tiptronic mechanism I put shifter in Drive position but reads S on dash. Happens on a ever so often basis. I am not paying attention until I hear the engine reving and I look at dash and it's in 1st gear so I quickly put Shifter in S mode to shift. After that I put shifter in D position and it's okay until next time it happens.

This sounds like a computer malfunction. Requires Scan Tool diagnosis. Any warning light on or flashing?

No warning light or flashing. I cannot get it serviced they will only run a diagnostic while it's happening, so I wait till it happens then drive it in I guess. Just wish I could check it myself with a computer diagnostic when it happens.

Suggest you call a few auto parts stores and ask if they offer a FREE scan of the computers on this vehicle. Write down the code ID and it s description.
