Floating speedo and transmission flutter

Asked by seagull63 Feb 25, 2017 at 07:46 PM about the 2004 Dodge Neon R/T Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an automatic '04 Neon that seems to slip in an out of gear at speed
and sometimes "clunks" at parking lot speeds.  The speedo also flutters
intermittently and does not return to zero until well after the car has
stopped.  It did this last summer and then was fine this winter but has
started again now that it's warming up.  The transmission has been well
maintained and the car just turned 80k miles.  Any suggestions would be
greatly appreciated!

Thanks for the response. I would have thought so too but the speedo flutter and the transmission flutter always correspond. Also curious as to why it doesn't happen when it's cold outside.
