When backing up in reverse then shifting to drive, car does not shift right
away.  Also while you are driving the car begins to rev.

Don't know what else is wrong with your car,. BUT, I generally think it's best to switch cars at 12 years and based on your experience, you're right there now with or without this disaster. A new transmission is thousands, or you could try a rebuilt or exchange, but, I'd still get rid of the car pretty quickly. You're going to have to evaluate whether fixing the car is worth getting a better price.

I had a 1995 Honda Accord EX wagon for 19 years and almost 150,000 miles, no engine or transmission issues. Honda is NOT the car company it used to be.
