if you ran it out of oil the first thing to check is timing, make sure the belt didn't jump or break. if it is broke it will crank over very fast, it will sound very different than normal.

First thing I would do is start looking for another car. If you ran it out of oil the engine is likely trashed.

IT WAS EXTREMELY LOW ON OIL, MOTOR DID NOT SIEZE OR ANYTHING, IT JUST STARTED SPUTTERING AND THEN DIED, HE THEN PUT 3 QUARTS OF OIL IN IT AND ADDED SOMEMORE GAS , HE HAD IN A GAS CAN IN THE TRUNK, IT SEEMS TO TURN OVER JUST FINE, JUST WILL NOT EVEN COME CLOSE TO STARTING NOW

ok,so did it die because you ran out of fuel?

he said no, it still had quarter tank, he said the gas had been in the gas can for a month or so, but I don't believe it would have gone bad by then, you.

No, what was the speed when engine died? and did it sputter to a stop. or did it shut off? like turning the ignition off.

he said he was going about 25mph, actually slowing down for a light and it sputtered to a stop, like if it was running out of gas, I got him 4 more gallons to put in before we tried to restart, but nothing happened, I was also jumping him to make sure there was plenty of power to turn it over.

fuel acts like a coolant for the fuel pump, if the tank is not full most of the times pumps can overheat and fail.
