Timing belt Acura TL 2009

Asked by Lauren-Aliana Apr 27, 2020 at 05:16 PM about the 2009 Acura TL FWD with Technology Package

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently bought a 2009 Acura TL With 140k miles
on it, however when i brought it to Acura for an oil
change it says that it needs a timing belt
replacement. How would they know this info? It
seems pretty high to get it fixed considering it is
over 1,000 to fix it i just want to make sure it really
needs to get done. So how would they know?

Timing belts should be replaced every 6 years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. With no prior service records the Dealer is assuming that the timing belt should have been changed at 120,000 miles. But if you know, from the previous owner, when the belt was last replaced you can do the math and make the decision to replace it or not. Hope that helps! Jim
