Loss of power

My a.c. compressor started making a awful sound
a few weeks ago. Yesterday we was sitting in line
at McDonald's. And it was scorching. As we pulled
off the compressor made a loud crazy sound then
the car shut off. It started back up but lost power.
Wouldn't move. Can I tell me what may have
happened

Would getting a new one make car move again?? Granny was fine. Just more a loss of power. Starts just has no go to it

If the clutch locks on the out position for a moment yes, other wise it would have stayed locked up causeing the serpentine belt to break

Ok. Ty. Going to just get new ac compressor from pull aparts. Learning to work on my own car after divorce from ass hole. Just wanted to make sure transmission didn't go to. Its been fine.

I completely understand. Removing the air conditioning compressor is not too hard however more than likely still going to be under pressure. Technically it should be you removed by mechanic through a vacuum system due to all the tree huggers . blah blah blah. Butt just make sure you take it off carefully it will be under pressure most likely. Once this is done you will need to take it to the mechanic they will have to put a vacuum on it to make sure there are no further leaks on the system before it is recharged. I hope this helps some
