Its actually really hard to check these thermostats. They aren't in a very easy place to get to, not impossible, but a very hard job. You should take your car to an autozone, they will hook your car up to a computer and run a diagnostic check and tell you exactly what is wrong, and it's free. Can't get much easier than that.

I have a 2001 Sebring Touring Convertible. Overheating, I've found is a complicated FIX. Several service companies wouldn't touch it. Took it to a small private garage and Rich treated me right. He replaced my Water Pump and Timing Cam chains....you see, the water pump is inside the engine behind the chains...when the chain tensioners get worn, they rub on the water pump and create an internal anti-freeze leak into the oil....EXCITING...also, your thermostat is located down in front under, behind the alternator.....I've watched 5 videos of home mechanics that work on others autos....One video recommended and showed how to remove the entire front bumper to be able to replace the thermostat. A NOTORIOUSLY insane engineering GOOF that Chrysler Corp has corrected. GOOD LUCK. I had Rich take OUT and NOT replace the thermostat on my car. I'll be installing an In-Line (hose) thermostat housing so it can be changed easily in the future. Also, an Electric water pump will be installed the same way. It is also a good Idea to not install a thermostat at all but, to have the electric water pump turn on when it is needed for flow.
