so my car drives and steers fine but when i hit the smallest bump in the road it makes a clunk sound. i think that's a good way to describe it.

It's best to have your suspension checked out for safety. That "clunk" could be upper and/or lower ball joints, broken strut/shock, wheel bearing, or loose wheel lugs nuts. Be safe.
