Crankshaft position sensor

My 2002 Sebring just had a
new remanufactured engine
installed. It runs great until it
warms up then coughs like
there is nothing there for a
fraction of a second. Check
engine light is on . Could the
positioning sensor cause
this? The old engine with rod
knocking didn't have such
issues and these parts from
original engine we're installed
on to the new long block.
Mechanic says that's the
code it's putting out. It just
doesn't seem that that would
be a heat related part, as I say
it runs better when engine is
cold.

Your mechanic is probably right especially if he is getting a code P0320...crankshaft position sensor. And yes, they heat up and cut off for a fraction of a second (no spark) then go again. You will also see the tachometer drop to Zero for an instant then back up. The reason the old part acts up on the new engine is that it was not installed right. They have to be pushed into the hole to touch the flywheel, then pulled back 0.030 inches to produce the right spark signal to the ECM. This distance is just a whisker of clearance like a lawn mower spark plug gap. If you can't get it right, it's old, just replace it with new.
