Where can I purchase the interior trunk trim fasteners for a 2005 Mustang Base Model?

Asked by fasteddie1950 Apr 14, 2014 at 08:23 PM about the 2005 Ford Mustang Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The plastic fasteners that secure the trim panels inside the truck of my 2005 Mustang have broken and the panels that cover the tail lights are loose. I've heard that these fasteners are not available from Ford any longer. Does anyone have any idea where I can purchase replacement fasteners?

Simple solution. Glue a 6mm x 1.0 coarse thread Tnut to each end of a 1 -5/8 inch long 1/2 ID PVC pipe. Flatten the barbs before gluing. I used hot melt glue. Glue so the flat end of the tnut is on the outside. I also reinforced with a strip of duct tape over each end. Try to center as much as possible when gluing. Screw the assembly onto the brake light assembly bolt until it butts against the brake light nut. Snap out the assembly that is in the panel where the previous fastener was. Use a 6mm x 1.0 x 16 mm long machine screw with a washer about 3/4 round and you have an effective, cheap, permanent solution. Cost me about $3.
