Pull the plugs and give a squirt of motor oil in there to pre-lube the piston rings. With the plugs out put a big socket on the crank and turn the engine over by hand. Change the oil and filter, with the drain plug out of the pan try and feel in there for excessive gunk. The concern is the bearing surfaces are dry so as much pre-lubing you can do will help. Changing the oil might also help prevent some of that congealed gunk in the pan from getting sucked into the oil pump/screen. You can also disconnect coil (so no spark) and crank engine with the starter to get some oil pressure going, before firing it up.

Engine will be in the same condition as when it was last operated. If it were mine I would put some fresh gas in it and 2 bottles of Techron fuel system cleaner, change the oil and oil filter, change the air filter and fire it up. As stated above you could remove the plugs and squirt some oil in the cylinder, but if it were mine I would just start it after giving it a service. Stale gasoline will be the biggest problem.

Five will get you ten the battery is shot. All the above suggestions are good. Remember condensation tends to form inside the engine during times when weather changes. Moisture in lubricants is not a good thing. I would have the tranny serviced also.
