Low battery check engine light

Asked by Andrew Dec 27, 2020 at 11:22 AM about the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Work Truck RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my check engine light was coming on. Periodically
over the past few weeks and today it was
extremely cold and the car won't start. I'm
guessing that the battery died I did not have time
to jump it so I took the spare car to work. Will the
check engine light come on for low battery?

No, the check engine light will not come on for a low or dead battery. Remove the battery and charge it. Then have the battery load tested. Or, if the battery is more than three years old, replace it. Look for a date code on the battery. A5, for example, is January of 2015. B5 is February of 2015 and so on. Newer batteries have number date codes which are more obvious to read (11/19 for example). Hope that helps! Jim
