TPMS Reset After Spare Tire Removal

I have a 2011 Toyota Highlander where I removed the spare tire to install a hitch. Unfortunately, the spare has a TPMS sensor on it which is no longer connected to the car. I think this is what is causing my low pressure light to now come on. I tried methods of holding down the reset button to reset the system to no avail. Is there any way to get the car to learn that there are now only 4 tires?

Do the other tires have it on them? The main thing they're telling you is to check air pressure in the tires

Hello, Yes. I checked the 4 tires and inflated them to 30 psi as indicated on the door jamb.
Did any of them get replaced recently? If so, it may need programmed to the manufacturer specs

Nope. Had he car since new and all wheels are original. Issue only began recently after taking off spare to fit hitch.
I would check with a toyota mechanic, but I would say the TPMS system is looking for that 5th tire pressure. Trying to reset without it will not work as you found out. Someone will have to program and or reconnect the spare to the vehicle.
