How can I reset my tire pressure warning system?

Asked by Ricmilan1 Feb 17, 2016 at 05:43 PM about the 2011 Toyota Highlander SE V6 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I checked where the manual told me to and I found a blank plastic cover, not
the switch!

I totally understand your frustration, regarding your issue. When the TPS light illuminates it can be for a number of reasons. Were the tires, or wheels recently replaced, or changed? I would take the car to the dealer and have them pull the code and reset the ECM. A tire shop may also be able to assist with this, but with my newer vehicles I prefer a pricey, but documented trip to the dealer to address the issue. Some people might say "oh just disconnect the battery and that will reset the ECM however, in a car as advanced as your Highlander, I would be concerned about the many sensors and electronic components not being properly reinitialized. If the light illuminated simply for low air pressure, and you have aired up the tire to the correct psi, the code usually has to be cleared, it will not self diagnose and automatically extinguish the light. I hope this helps!

I just came back from a Michigan trip and probably the cold could have had some effects. Also I haven't check the spare tire yet. Thanks for your help.

You are so welcome. I hope that you get this resolved, and yes, it could have been the cold that caused the air to contract however, typical road wear causes the tire to heat to a decent temperature. Just want to ensure that you and your loved ones are riding around in a safe vehicle. Always best to err on the side of caution! Best of luck!

2013 Highlander. Button is on right hand side under dash. I could not get light to go off. with reset switch I checked the spare tire and it was at 22.5 PSI. Pumped it up to 30 PSI and light went out. So you make sure check all tires including your spare.

I left my hilander in my garage for a week, this morning for the first time, my vehicle refused to start but keeps telling me: check your AWD system. What must I do?
