why would it smell like gas inside the car,coming through air vents?

LOL @ Push it to a mechanic (kids don't try this at home!). Other than that, I agree with you, Judge Roy...sounds dangerous to drive....play it safe and don't drive it yourself....get it towed, If you have AAA or if you have one of Nissan's Vehicle Protection Plans which includes a tow.

More support on do not drive it. The risk of fire is not worth it.
