When stopped and idling, my car has started "knocking" or clicking noise

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just in the last 3 weeks I have noticed a knocking noise when stopped at a
light. It stops as soon as I hit the accelerator.

I has just turned cold here.

A hard knock may be a bad rod bearing but tapping might just be valve clearance.

thanks. It's not a hard knock... more of a tapping like you say. My oil isn't due for a change for 1000 more miles. is there any transmission issue that could cause a tapping when my foot is on the brake.. .just waiting for the light to change? thank you!

Check the oil level and make sure you don't use a heavy oil in the winter. Your owners manual will recommend the correct oil weight for your winter temperature range. You probably need 5W-20 but check the manual.

My 2015 Escape 2.5L is having the same noise. I am suspecting a belt or pulley issue. It seems to do it more when cold.

2018 is having a ticking noise when the engine is on and I’m parked or not moving...
