Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving and all of a sudden the car started
losing power and seems like it's cutting fuel supply.
Then stopped and tried to start it but it won't start
as if I don't have fuel in the tank, but I had 1/4 tank.
Now after trying it a few times, the car would kick
the Rev count up and then immediately down when
I try to start it, but won't crank, Then I tried again
and now I couldn't hear the fuel pump running
when I turn it on. The relay doesn't kick when I turn
the car on and the fuse is not blown. We took out
the starter and found the brushes where worn out
and refurbished the starter. Well it's not back in but
the car doesn't run the fuel pump in the meantime.
So should we put the starter back will the car now
run the fuel pump and be back to normal?
What could be the problem

Suggestions: I would replace the fuel filter, check/replace relay as needed, verify there is actually power to relay, make sure fuel pump ground wire is attached and ensure your battery and alternator are up to par. There have been issues with the saddle tank design concerning the transfer hoses binding/collapsing. It's not good to let the gas level get too far down anyway. As far as the starter goes they can be bench tested prior to installation to avoid wasting time. Good Luck!
