2004 Cadillac Deville

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Long time reader of CarGurus. Ive gotten a lot of advice from your site. Now Im
having car troubles.  My car started shuttering a little , and began to get worse.
Not immediately, but over a couple of days. I didnt drive it long enough to see
how it would respond as I sped up. When I checked it,  it put out a P0300 code. I
removed the front 4 spark plugs and coil pack. I started it without the front four
spark plugs and coil pack installed and moved it about a foot and a half to get
away from an ant bed. It still shuddered. When i put in the new spark plugs and
coil pack in, it no longer started. I replaced the back 4 spark plugs and coil
pack. The car still wouldnt start. It turns over(?), but wont start. Almost, but not
quite. It seems as if when I turn the key, it acts like a Ford (I believe) does when
you need to push the fuel shut off button. I checked the little knob on top, and
fuel was there. Also, the fuel pump in the trunk sounded as if it was working. I
would greatly appreciate any advice. Im a single dad. I spend about 3 hours a
day walking to and from work since February of 2018. It is mid June now.

Always make sure you disconnect the battery when working on your car. If you didn't at every juncture of your repair work, you may have damaged your new coil packs. The misfiring code could very well be the coil packs. Sometimes the circuit is not shorted out while you are working, but is open when you are done working on an older car due to surface corrosion. Start over by checking those coil packs to see if they are both good. Walking is good for your health, but riding a bicycle is a lot faster.
