2004 cadillac sedan deville

My dads cadillac has an issue with the compass quit working, the coolant
monitor always says the coolant is low when its not, the fuel gauge always
shows half full when its not. He was told by a mechanic that its all monitored
by a computer and its bad. $800 to replace it.

Is this correct and does that sound legit? Im just trying to help my dad
because he is 79 and they see him coming a mile away.

Ouch...but the guy is probably right. If you doubt him, take it to another shop for a second opinion. Also, if he is going to replace the computer (ECM?), have him give you the one he removes and, if the problem is not resolved, he should put the old one back in and refund your $800.
