It all depends on the repair doesn't it... Generally BMW's are more expensive to maintain.

maintenance is relatively normal if you do the typical stuff with out taking it to a dealership - oil change, brake change, etc etc... repairs are going to run you different prices for different repairs, but those maintence things will run you the same for any car, just depends on how many quarts of oil you need (i think 7 for that specific car) where as a honda 1.9L will only need like 4 or so (dont quote me on the honda)... as for brakes, they're gonna be the same price as any other car - maybe a little more pricey, but not noticeably.. its when you have computer issues is when it gets very expensive, they have sensors that can run you $2k each

I owned 2 different e38 7 series ('00 & '01) for a total of 8 yrs. After you hit 140k km, beware. Radiator replacement (every 60k) was $500 each time, transmission rebuild was $2,400, suspension arms/bushings replacement totaled $1,000+ (depending on how you care about the ride and handling), various vaccum seals replacement was $700, high pressure steering fluid hoses replacement was $400 (for 2 hoses, there were more), timing chain guide replacement was $3,500, alternator replacement was $800, body rust repair/repaint was $2,500, and fuel tank repair $800. The list, of course, does not end there. I will buy another e38 in a heart beat, there are no better riding/handling cars out there at this price range, but just be prepared to spend many times the money of the vehicle's value to keep it running. Greater oil capacity and higher parts costs are just gross understatement.
