what's my options?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2008 BMW 535xi.(AWD) Obviously is a pretty rare care after trying to find a brand new motor.(not used). I'm assuming not that it doesn't exist. But, my question is should I try to find and replacement engine. Or can or should I trade it in elsewhere. I still owe $6,500 on it. It runs but loud and turbo is starting to go out so it's a loud clicking noice. With all maintained and repairs need it will cost me about $6,000 and I just bought the car 3 months ago. No problems at all then I bought it but one week after buying it I had to pay $1,800. For new coils and plugs and replaced a high pressure pump under ext. Warranty that cost $1,200. What can I do since there was no warranty at purchase but car checked out fine at the time. I'm really, really irritated but, not sure of my options. Suggestions please

This should be a warning to all potential used BMW buyers. Your options are only limited by your bank account balance. You can't buy a "new" engine but you can rebuild yours to be as good as new, maybe better than new but it will cost a lot. From your information I don't see that you need a new engine, just a lot of other stuff.

The BMW N54 twin turbo inline 6 cylinder engine won numerous awards and is fast and fun to drive however it was plagued with numerous issues like High Pressure Fuel pump, Turbo and Carbon Build up etc... A new engine would be way too expensive even if it was available. Depending on the mileage you would be better off finding good, honest independent BMW Master Mechanic to get the engine back up to good running order. Or have him installed a good used/rebuilt one. What part of the country are you in? If San Diego, I can recommend someone. - Mike McGovern, Encinitas, CA
