My A/C works great, however if I am idling for more than a few minutes, it will sut off.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On it's own, the A/C switches from circulation to outside air and stops blowing cold.  If I leave idling and drive down the road it works again.

There is a high limit control for the A/C, so when you are driving down the road you are passing cool air across the coil preventing the A/C from burning out. Check to see how the charge is. The High side should be about 125 psi to 150 psi depending on the outside air temp and the low side should be about 25 psi. Check to make sure the condenser is cleaned and the is enough air passing thru the condenser. it sounds like a bad control or short on charge.

You might have a defective HVAC module or it needs a dealer reflash to the program. That is if your Freon charge is correct.
