My 2011 Honda pilot had the vtm-4 light come on and the check engine light, what should I do?

Asked by Jul 06, 2018 at 11:14 AM about the 2011 Honda Pilot LX 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It came on when I was driving one day. What is my
best course of action?

Mine came on last week--the VTM-4 light goes off periodically, but comes back on. I'm going to get it scanned to see what the issue is, but in doing some research it looks like it's time to service my rear differential for the 4WD--I have nearly 150k miles. My check engine light came on just before 75k miles, too, and it was just a reminder for regular service. I'm guessing that's the case this time, too, as we've already had new spark plugs/wire done. Could be an oxygen sensor, too, but not losing any fuel economy.
