I would be thinking a safety part, like anti-theft or neutral safety switch, Dead/low battery. Is it even trying to crank, Is starter turning engine over?

Locate the 4WD fuse and relay and or 4WD control switches/actulators, fuse and relays for it may be with the other main fuses and relays under your hood under the black plastic lid. A repair book would go a long way.
