2010 Mini Cooper Clubman S Rough Idle after adding oil

Asked by GWFlorida Nov 24, 2020 at 10:46 PM about the 2010 MINI Cooper S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Checked oil and it was low. Added oil and it hasn't run right since. Spent $2400 on repairs and it still idles rough. Changed Water pump, cross tube, thermostat, VVT, valve cover, fuel cap, spark plugs. Get random cylinder misfire codes. I'm running out of options and patience. What in the world could be wrong?

Did you over fill the oil? If the oil level got too low there could be engine damage. I would do a compression test.

No, oil was filled properly. Shop I took it to did vacuum leak test and also said compression was good. I feel like we have have checked everything

Any idea on how long the oil was low? No oil to keep them lubricated, it could have worn the valve seals allowing oil to seep into cylinders

Do you have any rattle noises on the passenger side of the engine? How many miles? You could have the dreaded timing chain tensioner issue that is common on 2007 to 2010 Cooper's. Take the car to a BMW independent garage that can proper diagnose your problem.
