Ford f150 passenger door latch

Asked by Krista Apr 07, 2020 at 05:17 PM about the 2010 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The passenger door will only open (unlatch) using the
inside handle. The exterior door handle moves the pin
down when you open the door, but it does not release the
latch. How can I fix it?

Remove the door trim panel and look for a dislodged linkage

I don't see anything hanging or dislodged. I found 2 gaskets (3 inches long each) loose at the bottom inside the door frame.

Hard to tell from your picture. Is the pink clamp in the photo attached to another rod or is it attached to the lock mechanism itself? Locate the actual lock mechanism then pull up on the handle to see if it disengages the lock. If the mechanism moves up and down, in or out, but the lock does not engage, it is probably a problem with the lock mechanism. If nothing moves when activated, trace rods to you locate the problem. Sometimes the plastic clamp becomes stripped out or weak and becomes loose.
