Headache and nausea when driving Jeep Cherokke

Question type: General

I recently bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee 10.  I have been having headaches
and nausea whilst driving.  Took back to garage and they said it was the fuel
filter.  Then took back again as AC not working and an oil leak.  Headache,
nausea and tiredness now worse.  Even if I run car on driveway and sit in car
for two minutes.  Can't smell diesel fumes.  Could it be freon?

You are probably getting carbon monoxide poisoning. Your ER or doctor can do a blood test to confirm it. Don't drive that vehicle until that exhaust leak is fixed. You can't smell carbon monoxide but it is accompanied by diesel stink. I'm a long time trucker...I know this stuff well. And no, it's not "Freon" (134a).

Thank you for your reply. I can't smell any diesel in the car and neither can anyone else which is why we wonder if it is Carbon monoxide. I put a Monoxide monitor in the car and it does not set it off.

The carbon monoxide monitor is a great idea. If it does not go off while engine runs, then it must be something else. Sometimes a leaky heater core can make you sick as antifreeze is toxic if your breathe it in. There will be an oily deposit on the inside of the windshield that tastes bitter. Antifreeze of many years ago tasted sweet. Check for low coolant.

I am having it checked over by a Jeep mechanic tomorrow so will mention that to him. Can't see any deposit on inside though. And ask him to check coolant.

I just got a 2019 GC Limited with the 5.7L V8 and am getting the same symptoms, nausea and headaches every time I drive it. No other cars give me this including my brother's 2018 GC Altitude. Whenever I get out of the car I can smell something but figured it might have just been from pushing it a little hard. However that is not the problem. Any solutions?

Hi, I get exactly the same symptoms when I drive my diesel Free Lander also if the headache does not start in the car it starts Very shortly after I have driven it, and lasts for some times several days after wards commensurate with the length of journey I made. I am looking into possible causes - startIng with the Pollen filter. Will Try to keep you posted - can you try to do the same please if you can as this is a dire position. Louise Forster

Do you have active noise cancellation? It can cause nausea and headaches in sensitive persons. Lots of articles on the internet about this.
