2010 Chevy Malibu lt

Asked by cj Mar 22, 2018 at 04:59 PM about the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu 1LT FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While driving I lost power. The dash read engine
power reduced, service ECM, traction control. The
motor started jerking like crazy. Lights flickered a
little. I turned off the vehicle and checked battery
cables first and they were loose. I tightened them
and the car drove fine. Next day it happened again.
I checked and the battery terminal was loose
again. I tightened it and it was fine, but, later that
day it had happened about 3 more times each time
getting more difficult to get the car to stop. But
every time reading the same things across the
dash and engine jerking violently. Now my car sits
in my driveway and will start but engine jerks and it
won't drive but maybe 5 miles per hour and still
reading service ECM, engine power reduced and
traction control. I had a guy come by and hook it up
to diagnostic machine and here are the codes it
fired back.
P2135 throttle pedal position sensor switch
P0700 transmission control system malfunction
indicator lamp
C0242 PCM indicated TCS malfunction invalid
serial data
P2176 Throttle actuator control system idle
position not learned
P2534 ignition switch run/start position circuit low

The mechanic said the main code that fired back
that he's concerned about is the P0700
transmission control system he's afraid something
is wrong with the transmission however I continue
hearing about the same problems with the same
Dash readings I read somewhere that a guy
changed out his whole fuse box and it fixed the
problem. It's hard for me to believe that every
single thing that could go wrong to give you that
Dash reading has literally gone wrong with this car
there's no way that all of these codes are coming
back true. I just bought this vehicle three weeks
ago I have one week left of the warranty but I
looked back at the warranty and it shows that I
have to pay 80% of any repairs somebody please
help me.

Check your fuses, see if any are blown. Also check for any signs of water that may have entered.

All the codes the mechanic read can contribute to the problem you are having. On the other hand, a car's engine control module (ECM) is a computer system that acts as the "brain" of a car. This little computer analyzes lots of information in order to control the car's performance. When the ECM fails, it will greatly hurt the engine's performance. So, since you say that the service ECM warning came on, all the symptoms may be caused by a faulty ECM.

Update: I just cleaned the throttle body cause one of the solution's was to do so and a started it, it stopped jerking but when I hit the break to put it in gear it made a high pitch winding noise then I put it in drive a it wouldn't go anywhere at all

Well CJ now it sounds like a transmission issue.Did you check the fluid condition/

Still drove till I cleaned the throttle body then it was totally screwed smh. I honestly have no clue where to go next with it :(

Can't check fluid it's a closed transmission can't get it to a shop cause it's broke down

if you look at the top of the trans. right side ( drivers side if in car } you will see a red cap, that's to check the fluid.
