fuel gauge works sporadically and cruise control doesn't work at all! any recommendations?

I bought this care used a month or so ago with 86,000 miles on it.  After filling the gas tank two or
three times, I've noticed the needle registered full when I filled it then, as it gets down to 3/4 full it
shoots down to dead empty.  The last time I filled the tank, it stayed at empty and hasn't moved
since.  Could this be an electrical connection?   I've also notice that the cruise control is not working
at all.  I keep pushing the on and set buttons and, occasionally the set light will come on but it
doesn't maintain or hold the speed.

Had the same fuel gauge problem. Dropped the fuel tank and looked inside and found the wires to the fuel pump were tangled up with fuel gauge float. A couple of zip ties fixed it.
