2009 Dakota pinion Gear

Asked by Zach8200 Sep 17, 2019 at 04:29 PM about the 2009 Dodge Dakota ST Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is there a way to know if I need the 8" or 9" pinion
gear without having to take my 09 dakota apart?
It's making all sorts of whining and I'm sure the
bearings are shot as well in the rear.

If you are sure you will need a replacement, go ahead and take it apart and then match up what you have to a new part.

I need the truck for work right up to the day I take it apart. So I'd like to have the part ahead of time
