I have a hope coming out of the top left of valve cover.
Where does this go to?

looks like a PCV hose, see diagram here: http://new.minimania.com/part/G2NME6175-P/Mini-Cooper-Pcv-Vent-Hose-Oem-R55-R56-R57-R58-R59-R60-R61

This goes to intake manifold and its a vent for your engine.
